Bass of the Week: Mana Bass Custom Scroll Bass

This week, we’re checking out another fabulous instrument from the collection of Bass Upfront founder David Sutkin. This custom scroll bass from Mana Basso is a four-string with an extra-long 35-inch scale.
The neck-through bass has a five-layer neck of figured hard maple and black walnut with body wings made from figured big leaf maple and figured black walnut. Its top and back plates are black limba. Mana Basso utilized wenge for the fingerboard. Finally, the headstock features a unique scroll-style construction.
For electronics, the bass was fitted with a set of Ulyate MusicMan/Jazz Bass hybrid pickups. Each pickup has a coil tap switch to toggle between the north coil, both coils, or the south coil. Volume, Blend, and Tone knobs finish off the control set. Hardware includes a Hipshot A Style brass bridge, Hipshot Ultralite tuners, Dunlop strap-lock strap buttons, and custom ebony knobs.
