Janek Gwizdala Publishes “The Bassist’s Book of Scales and Arpeggios”

The Bassist's Book of Scales and Arpeggios

Janek Gwizdala has published a new comprehensive book on learning the fundamentals of music. The Bassist’s Book of Scales and Arpeggios compiles methods and exercises for putting the musical alphabet to use.

“…There is a gap in the published pedagogy for electric bassists; a comprehensive, standardized manual for learning the instrument,” Gwizdala states. “And trust me when I say that no matter where you are on your journey, these technical components are essential for your growth as a player. From simply knowing all the notes on the fretboard in a chromatic scale, to the fundamental shapes of traditional major and minor scales, to the incredible and often overlooked sounds of the Ukrainian Dorian or Double Harmonic Major—anything in Western music can be unlocked with the simple magic of scales and arpeggios.”

Gwizdala even explores Messiaen’s modes of limited transposition for the bass. After 233 pages of scales, modes, arpeggios, and broken chords, the author gives over 100 pages of studies for the major, harmonic minor, melodic minor, harmonic minor, and altered scales.

The Bassist’s Book of Scales and Arpeggios is available now through Gwizdala’s website in digital and physical copies.
