David Gilmour Returns to IMAX: Live at the Circus Maximus Hits Theaters This Fall

David Gilmour is hitting the big screen this fall with Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome, a new concert film from his Luck and Strange tour. It opens in IMAX theaters on September 17, with digital and home releases coming in October.

If the newly released “Sorrow” clip is any indication, this one’s going to be something special. The band sounds great, the Roman backdrop is stunning, and Gilmour’s playing feels as emotive as ever. Bass duties are in good hands with Guy Pratt, who’s been a steady presence in Gilmour’s world for years. For this run, he’s rocking a Spector bass through an Ashdown rig, delivering a tight, punchy tone that cuts through the mix beautifully.

The film features songs from Luck and Strange alongside some Floyd favorites like “Comfortably Numb” and “Wish You Were Here.” It was directed by Gavin Elder and filmed during a run of sold-out shows across five cities.

A live album from the same tour, The Luck and Strange Concerts, drops October 17 in a few formats, including a deluxe box with a photo book by Polly Samson. Tickets and info are at davidgilmour.film.
