Norwood Fisher is turning 60, and he’s celebrating in style. The former Fishbone bassist has announced a 60th birthday extravaganza, featuring a who’s who of funk and rock. The event, scheduled for September 12th, will include performances by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Vernon Reid and Corey Glover of Living Colour, Money Mark, Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction, Blackbyrd McKnight, and many more.

“Set against the backdrop of unforgettable music that has woven through our lives, this event highlights the influences and connections that unite us all,” the event page states. “Relive the moments that shaped the sound of generations, from the funk-infused grooves of Parliament Funkadelic to the boundary-pushing stylings of Jane’s Addiction, the glamour of David Bowie, and, of course, the electrifying spirit of Fishbone. Prepare for an evening filled with joyous performances, heartfelt tributes, and memories that will last a lifetime.”

Fisher founded the influential genre-bending band Fishbone in 1979 and was with the band until just last year. His aggressive blend of punk, funk, metal, reggae, and soul inspired a wave of bassists. Check out just one of his unique styles with his fanning technique.
