Unearthed: Smashing Pumpkins’ Raw 1994 Set at the Fillmore’s Grand Reopening

A full video of the Smashing Pumpkins‘ 1994 set at the Fillmore just surfaced and it’s a total time capsule. The band was deep in their Siamese Dream era with Billy and D’arcy fully locked in and the fuzz turned all the way up.

The show marked the reopening of the Fillmore after the venue had been shuttered for five years following the Loma Prieta earthquake. The Pumpkins came in unannounced and lit it up with a set that included “Geek U.S.A.,” “Disarm,” “Cherub Rock,” and a scorched-earth version of “Silverfuck” that drops into “Over the Rainbow” before melting back into chaos.

It’s grainy and loud and everything you want from early Pumpkins. Pre-Mellon Collie, pre-stadiums, just four people going for it in a room that had a lot of ghosts. Turn it up.  If you cant watch the whole thing, start HERE!
