B-15 Tone in a Box: Origin Effects Releases the BASSRIG Fifteen Preamp and DI

Origin Effects BASSRIG Fifteen and Its Inspiration

Origin Effects has unveiled the BASSRIG Fifteen, a bass preamp and DI pedal designed to recreate the sound of an Ampeg B-15 Portaflex amp. The analog pedal captures the magic of the vintage amp by simulating its entire circuit, including the preamp, phase inverter, power amp, and reactive load. The combination of those factors is what gives the pedal its sound – and its feel.

“We’ve wanted to make a B-15 Amp Recreation for ages because it’s just such a cool sound, but it’s taken us a long time to get it right” says Origin Effects Product manager, John Dines. “We updated the way we approach the main circuitry, worked hard on the voicing of the cab sim, and improved the Amp Out EQ. In fact, we learnt so much while making the BASSRIG Fifteen that future Amp Recreations will be much better because of it.”

Origin even made accurate measurements of a mic’d up B-15 cabinet to dial in the BASSRIG Fifteen’s cab simulator.

The Origin Effects BASSRIG Fifteen is available now for $565. The company is also offering their Cali76 Bass Compressor in a matching “Fifteen Blue” finish.
