From Monastery Wood to Monster Amps: This Week’s Biggest Bass Stories
Welcome back to No Treble’s Top Ten, where we recap the best bass of the week.
Our most-read story this week was about the Peavey Super Festival Series Bass Amp, a vintage model they’ve reimagined for the 21st century. The 1,200-watt F-1200B head and 610 Bass Enclosure feature retro looks and tone with features of the original: discrete BJT (bipolar junction transistor) preamp circuitry, a six-band inductive EQ, and dual inputs. Click through the link for a demo of the amp from Bass Bonedo.
The Bass of the Week was the Red Bird Instruments Mini Gemini. Featuring a minuscule 23.5-inch scale, the tiny bass has a big story: Red Bird used wood salvaged from an 18th-century monastery to craft the body.
Modest Mouse announced they are selling off more of their used and abused gear on Reverb. One highlight is a Danelectro Dano ’63 Long Scale Bass that was “played at probably hundreds of Modest Mouse shows in the last 20 years.” Other basses include an Aria Violin Bass, a Peavey Patriot, an LTD Bass, and a Made-in-Japan Fender Precision. The shop goes live on December 17th.
The grooves ran the gamut this week from heavy (The Omnific) to fusion (Munir Hossn with Lee Ritenour) to bluegrass (Royal Masat with Billy Strings). Scroll on to jam out and read up on all things bass.
