Nick Beggs Brings His Lost Kajagoogoo Wal Bass Back to Life With a New Album

Late last year, a legendary instrument was returned to its owner, and we’re not talking about Paul McCartney‘s Höfner. Nick Beggs was reunited with the Wal Pro2E Bass he used with Kajagoogoo, four decades after the band broke up. The bass, which he used on the hit “Too Shy” among others, is singing in his hands again, and we’re going to hear it.
“Well, it’s one whole year on, and the Bass of Goo has done more air miles in 2025 than it has in its entire life,” he wrote on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1G4XhxUyyN/ “As a thank you to all who helped me reunite with her, I’ll be releasing a freely downloadable album recorded with the instrument on Bandcamp in the new year.”
Beggs has shared the entirety of Wal Mart on YouTube, but it will be available as a free download on BandCamp. He easily coaxes out the bass’s naturally muscular tone, but several tracks feature rounder, gentler tones, as well. Listen for yourself:
Beggs bought the bass second hand in 1981 and toured the world with it as a part of Kajagoogoo. It was sold after Kajagoogoo disbanded in 1985. The bass resurfaced in 2024 through The Bass Gallery, and he raised funds to get it back. He posted the reunion on his Facebook.
