Thank You Scientist Parts Ways with Bassist Cody McCorry, Welcomes Sam Smith

Another progressive rock band has announced a lineup change. Thank You Scientist shared the news that bassist Cody McCorry has left the band after a ten-year tenure. They also announced their newest member.
“We have a bittersweet announcement to start the new year- after ten years of active prog duty, bassist Cody McCorry is stepping down from Thank You Scientist,” they shared on Facebook. “Together we shared an incredible amount of musical memories and his presence will be missed dearly. Cody has passed the torch to our close friend and tour-mate Sam Smith (Art Thief), who will be making his debut performance with the band in March. We wish Cody the best in all of his future musical endeavors! Please send your love to Cody and give Sam a warm welcome to the band!”
McCorry shared his own statement, calling the band the “most intense gig” of his life.
“Over the course of 10 years, the seven-piece band was generally either in a rehearsal room multiple days a week, or on the road. The unbelievably complex music was painstakingly written in total collaboration between the various members, with the bulk of my compositional work going towards the 84-minute megalithic prog odyssey, Terraformer,” he wrote, adding that he was grateful for the community. “Lastly, and most importantly, I’d like to extend a really heartfelt thanks to the TYS community that has been so kind to me from day one – everyone who’s been learning the comically difficult bass lines, everyone who took the time to contact me to say how much the TYS music meant to them, and especially everyone who took the time to check out my lesser known projects, all of which I aim to work even harder on now. I hope to catch y’all out on the road!”
