Foo Fighters Turn NPR’s Tiny Desk Into a Full-Blown Rock Show
Foo Fighters finally made their long awaited Tiny Desk debut and somehow managed to sound just as massive squeezed into NPR’s tiny office space. The band worked through a five song set that mixed new material with some of their biggest classics, proving that stripped down does not have to mean dialing back the energy.
The set opened with “Spit Shine” before rolling into “Learn to Fly,” “Child Actor,” “My Hero,” and closing with “Everlong.” Even in the tighter setup, the band still felt huge. On the low end, Nate Mendel held everything together with his trusty Fender Precision Bass, delivering the deep, punchy tone that has been a staple of Foo Fighters for decades. Nate stayed locked with the kick drum while grounding the wall of guitars from Grohl, Pat Smear, and Chris Shiflett.
