L7 Bassist Jennifer Finch Reveals Aggressive Brain Cancer Diagnosis

Jennifer Finch

L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. The all-female rock band, which is gearing up for its final The Last Hurrah Tour, made the announcement on Instagram.

“Our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer,” they shared. “Following multiple surgeries and serious complications, Jennifer now requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation, and professional in-home support. Friends, family and L7 have launched a GoFundMe to help cover these urgent expenses and allow her to remain safely at home with the care, dignity and support she needs.”

They add that Finch will not join them on the Last Hurrah tour, though the bassist asked them to continue the tour as planned.

The GoFundMe campaign gives further insight to Finch’s condition.

“The cancer and everything that comes with it have left her with significant physical limitations so she’s handling this the only way she knows how: one day at a time,” a post states. “The level of care Jennifer needs has gone beyond what friends and family can safely provide around the clock. As we face the difficult reality that Jennifer may have more good days behind her than ahead, we are asking for help to make the time she has with her friends, family, and fans as comfortable, meaningful, and full of love as possible.”

Finch met future Hole star Courtney Love in the early ’80s and moved between Los Angeles and San Francisco as she became a staple of the punk scene. She left college in 1986 to join L7 with Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner. Together, they toured with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and the Beastie Boys. They also appeared on the first Warped Tour and Lollapalooza. She left L7 in 1996, and the band went defunct around 2001. They reformed with Finch in tow in 2014.

We’re wishing the best to Jennifer Finch.
