Jackson Revisits Its First Five-String With David Ellefson Legend Series Bass

Jackson Limited Edition Legend David Ellefson CB V Concert

Jackson has announced the Legend Series, which honors four metal icons with signature models inspired by their instruments. The lineup features instruments for Randy Rhoads, Scott Ian, Marty Friedman, and bassist David Ellefson, whose vintage Concert bass inspired the Limited Edition Legend Series Signature David Ellefson CB V Concert™ Bass.

“My Jackson Concert basses have always been the sleek, high-octane version of what I consider to be a great bass,” Ellefson stated in a press release. “Their slightly smaller body and fast action made them perfect for my aggressive playing style. My original 1987 Concert bass gave me the freedom to fully develop my playing without limitations from the instrument. Jackson basses have become an integral part of who I am and the music I’m known for.”

The new model is built around an alder body and a three-piece through-body quartersawn maple neck reinforced with graphite rods. Its ebony fingerboard has a 12″–16″ compound radius for comfort across the entire neck. Jackson fitted the body with an EMG 40DC pickup in the bridge position with an EMG CS at the neck. An EMG 3-band EQ rounds out the electronics, while hardware includes a Jackson HiMass 5-string bridge and Hipshot open-gear tuners.

In this launch video for the Legend Series, Ellefson explains it is based on the first-ever five-string Jackson bass, which he had them create for Megadeth’s Rust in Peace tour.

The Jackson Limited Edition Legend Series Signature David Ellefson CB V Concert™ Bass is available now for $2,499.
