New iOS App Dissects Polyrhythms
If you’re crazy about figuring out new rhythms, you may want to check out a new app called PolyRhythmApp. Created in part by bassist Kenneth Dahl Knudsen, the app helps you “study and practice various polyrhythms in a wide range of time signatures.”
It has a loop that can be set for up to 16 bars that allows you to dial in by choosing the beats, subdivisions, and polyrhythms. It can also accent the first beat of each measure and assign bass notes to each subdivision. Each sound layer can be played or muted independently throughout the loop, and the volume can be adjusted to suit the output device. Finally, each setting can be saved and loaded for revisiting.
PolyRhythmApp is available for iOS 7.1 on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It’s in the App Store for $4.99.
