Guild Introduces the Jumbo Junior Bass
Bassists looking for a super short scale bass have a new option with the Guild Jumbo Junior Bass, a four-string acoustic/electric. It has just a 23¾-inch scale.
Part of Guild’s Westerly Collection, the Jumbo Junior bass is built with a solid Sitka spruce top with arched flamed maple for the back and sides. “We chose [the combination] to mirror the tonewoods that have been used in upright bass construction for centuries, resulting in a clear, tight bass tone that is impressive for its reduced size,” Guild writes. “The back, sides and neck are finished in a satin antique blonde finish, which adds a rich depth and unique character to the wood’s figure.”
Its maple neck is topped with an ebony fingerboard with Mother of Pearl dot inlays to match the rosette. For plugging in, Guild fits the model with their AP-1 Active Acoustic Piezo pickup. Check out the company’s demo video with Adele bassist Peter Randall:
The Guild Jumbo Junior Bass will be available with an MSRP of $695.
