Bass of the Week: Schorr Guitars The Owl Bass #011

While scrolling on Facebook, I came across the Owl Bass by Schorr Guitars and had to learn more. Its half-minimal, half-futuristic design exudes a funky style with a cool finish to boot.
“Schorr Guitars is a one-person operation,” luthier Nicolai Schorr tells us. “I build instruments in Berlin, Germany based on my models – The Owl and Neptune – to order. The Owl Bass is a very short scale electric bass developed with bassist Lucas Dietrich from the band Holler My Dear. He approached me with the idea of a super short scale, small bass guitar, that would fit into a guitar case but have a big sound. With its short scale, floating wood bridge, single coil guitar pickup, and flatwound strings, it sounds a lot like an upright bass.”
As if that’s not enough, the Owl Bass also features a detachable, fully adjustable neck joint, that allows for detaching or adjusting the neck without any tools. Schorr constructs the bass with a black walnut and maple neck, a poplar body, and a maple fretboard. He also utilizes black walnut for the neck block, tailpiece, headstock, and bridge.
