Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Billy Cox Play Bass on “Both Sides of the Sky”
Even 48 years after his untimely passing, there’s still music being uncovered from the Jimi Hendrix vault. Both Sides of the Sky is a new album featuring 13 studio recordings, ten of which have never been released. The album is described as “completing a trilogy of albums [with Valleys Of Neptune and People, Hell & Angels] presenting the best and most significant unissued studio recordings remaining in the Hendrix archive.”
A majority of the tracks are taken from sessions between January 1968 and 1970. The song has the original Jimi Hendrix Experience lineup (with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding) on one track with the majority of the bass work provided by Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox. Hendrix and crew take on the guitarist’s original tunes plus a variety of cover songs, like “Mannish Boy” by Muddy Waters, mixed in. Hendrix himself even picks up the bass to back up Stephen Stills on “Woodstock”.
