Chi Cheng Showing Signs of Improvement

Chi ChengAfter being in a coma since November, 2008, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng is showing signs of improvement, according to his band mates.

“He’s been out of his coma for a while now, which is great” singer Chino Moreno told The Quietus. “He’s still in a minimally conscious state, which means he sleeps a lot, wakes up, opens his eyes and looks around but he’s yet to communicate. He’s got some good doctors around him right now, but it’s gonna take some time, y’know?”

Cheng has been on a new treatment protocol which uses a combination of already existing medications and electrical stimulation. The new protocol boasts an 84% recovery rate. Dr. Joseph Nguyen wrote in his progress notes that Cheng was “showing signs of improved neuro function and improved alertness at this time. Increased response to verbal stimuli. Directed movement, with purpose, seen and observed.”

Though this is good news, money is still needed to continue the treatment. Funds are being collected to move him to one of the top medical facilities in the nation, and to sustain his stay there for at least 3-6 more months. To donate or learn more, visit One Love for Chi.
