Flea Giving Away Signed Bass Through Charity Sweepstakes

Fleabass (Signed)Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has started a fundraising page on Crowdrise.com to raise money for his Silverlake Conservatory of Music. Silverlake is a non-profit that grants scholarships to low-income students, as well as gives them instruments and lessons.

“A few years back, I had the opportunity to visit my old high school and noticed how many of the music programs were cut from when I was there,” Flea writes. “There were barely any instruments left and the music room was essentially bare. I quickly realized that there was something I could do to help out and that’s when I started the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. The mission of the Conservatory is to facilitate basic music education for the youth of the community (ages 7-17) but all are welcome and encouraged to participate.”

Flea is aiming to raise $50,000 through his Crowdrise page, and as an incentive to give, anyone who donates $27 will be entered for a chance to win a Flea Bass autographed by the man himself. Check out our coverage of the Fleabass here, as well as the more recent Street Bass.

“Music saved my life and brought me great joy,” he says. “Please give what you can to help a low-income child learn music. There are kids who really want to be here but can’t afford it. We can all help.”

Entries for the bass sweepstakes end September 9, 2010. Visit the Silverlake Conservatory of Music Crowdrise page or their website for more details.
