Way Down: Playing Bass with Elvis, Dylan, the Doors and More – The Autobiography of Jerry Scheff

Hard to believe the musical career of Jerry Scheff can fit into a 256 page autobiography, but somehow Scheff managed to do it. The pro session bassist has penned a memoir covering his 45 year career with some of the biggest names in popular music, set for release in March, 2012.

In Way Down: Playing Bass with Elvis, Dylan, the Doors and More – The Autobiography of Jerry Scheff, Scheff recounts his time with Elvis in the TCB Band – including time on the King’s private jet, as well as touring with Bob Dylan and in the studio with The Doors.

The book opens with the TCB Band learning of Elvis’s death while on their way to a tour date, and the impact it had on Scheff, the band, and the world. The book takes off from there, in a non-linear timeline of Scheff’s incredible musical career, and a look at his early years in San Francisco.

In addition to anchoring the TCB Band and working with Dylan, Scheff performed with Roy Orbison, Elvis Costello, the Association, Neil Diamond, Johnny Mathis, the Everly Brothers, John Denver, Nancy Sinatra and many others.
