Lehle Releases DC Filter
Lehle has released the DC Filter, a stereo filter for removing unwanted DC voltage from audio signals. The filter handles both mono and stereo signals and sports a passive design, so it doesn’t require a power supply.
Lehle explains that audio signals with a DC offset can cause an “unpleasant” switching noise. While offsets can occur in various places in a signal path, the most common points are outputs of active circuits like “bass preamps, output sockets of effect processors or input sockets of tube amplifiers.” Simply connect the DC socket to the source of the DC offset and the 0DC socket to the device you want to shield from it.
The Lehle DC Filter is available now for €36 (approx. $46 USD). For more info, visit the Lehle website.
Lehle DC Filter Specs:
- Weight: 117g
- Length: 7 cm (2.8”)
- Width: 3.7 cm (1.5”)
- Overall height: 3.1 cm (1.2”)
- Frequency response: 20 Hz – 100 kHz
- Load impedance: 4.7 MOhm
- Max. level: 9.75 V RMS (ca. 22 dBU)
If this works, it will be a brilliant idea. What amount of your typical ‘ground noise’ is the result of this DC offset, though? I know my single coil pickups are at the heart of it, but they’re well-shielded, so maybe if I just put this after my Sansamp, which sounds like gold but IS rather noisy.. and it’s 9V DC…
Nowhere online for sale yet.. maybe I’m looking in all the wrong places? But I did check eBay and the dealer pages listed under the US importer for Lehle…
Daniel Lenaghan Did you check their “where to buy” page? Not sure if that’ll help. http://www.lehle.com/frameset.php?country=us&lang=en&A_Link=where_to_buy
I did, yes, but this particular item does not seem to be in stock yet, at least at the dealers I checked, but I’ve sent a few emails and am keen to get this into my signal chain.
