Ernie Ball Introduces Cobalt Slinky Bass Strings

Ernie Ball Cobalt Slinky Bass StringsErnie Ball has expanded their Slinky string line with the introduction of the all-new Cobalt Slinkys.

As the name indicates, the new sets use cobalt, which has a high magnetism to provide a stronger relationship between an instrument’s strings and pickups.

Ernie Ball says the design adds extended dynamic range, better harmonic response, increased low end, and cleaner highs.

The company plans to have the Cobalt Slinky bass strings available in all of the same gauges as the company’s other Slinky lines, and will be hitting stores in mid-March. The expected street price is $29.99 per set.

  1. Of course these are announced the day after I bought a set of their regular Slinky (45-130) for my 5er. Sigh.. Just might have to try these strings. Interestingly enough, my wedding band is made of cobalt.

  2. “its not hype, its real”…. yeah sure……

  3. Would love to try’em but nobody seems to have any. They’ve been on back order from GC.
for over a month. Why release a product, publicize it then not have inventory to distribute to dealers and consumers?

  4. Not really a fan of the Ernie ball strings. They always died after about a week or so. :( But I hope this fixes that.

  5. I’d definitely check these out if they had different gauges.

  6. Always willing to give something New a Try…. now to find them?

  7. The age-old process of “how to soup up a Jazz Bass” just gained another variable, with the specs on these strings. I wonder if they would be overkill on some instruments with hot pickups, and whether or not the strings might become part of a unique subtle variation of grit/grind.

  8. You can pre-order them at http://www.bassstringsonline.com http://www.bassstringsonline.com/Cobalt-Slinky-Bass-Strings_c_543.html Really a great site for all string purchases! I’m looking forward to trying these strings.

  9. Have a set on order……

  10. this sounds like a bad idea for active pickups I can see them working really well with passives.
