AC Guitars Introduces J-Type Models

AC Guitars J-Type Oly White Bass

Alan Cringean of AC Guitars has unveiled the J-Type series, a line of basses that gives a nod to classic bass design.

“This range of basses offers a more traditional body shape but still has features that are typical of the ACG ethos,” the luthier explained.

AC Guitars J-Type Black Bass with Red PickguardAvailable in 4- and 5-string versions, the J-Type is built to order and therefore presents several options for customization. The bass is offered with either an alder or ash body, while the 3-piece maple neck can be topped with either rosewood or an acrylic impregnated birdseye maple board. The neck has an asymmetric profile and is supported by a dual action truss rod and carbon rods.

For hardware, Cringean includes a Hipshot Type A bridge, Gotoh GB7 tuners, and a Hipshot string tree. The pickups are ACG’s SB single coils or FB humbuckers in 25mm wide casings and are paired with either an East UK U-retro or P-retro preamp.

Prices for the AC Guitars J-Type basses start at £1,600 for a 4-string and £1,650 for a 5-string, which is approximately $2,516 USD and $2,594 USD, respectively. For more details, visit the AC Guitars website.

    • Rob have you seen those new digital guitars? You can program sounds into them and strum like a guitar but you can create some pretty awesome music with this standalone guitar. I saw an article for it a while back

    • @[523152095:2048:Jay Gentile] I may have, there is a lot of cools stuff out now that ive been seeing advertised on FB. I will have to check that out man.

  1. Once again, nice guitars, but waaaay tooo pricey, why?

  2. I thought the natural finish bass might be loaded with stacked humbuckers. Carvin did that in the 90’s. If it doesn’t have a J-Bass tone, I wouldn’t bother.

  3. Very nice approach to a classic design. Reminiscent of Xotic’s take on the J-Bass a little.

  4. love the body shape, pick ups and hardware on these but I have a massive dislike of 4-in line head stocks and un-laminate necks, just once I’d love to see a modern jazz with a 2+2 or 3+2 head stock. what sucks is that most of these custom makers won’t even do such features for you.

    • If you contacted Alan at ACG he would totally put any headstock shape on you want. These are just his standard models that he produced for the London Bass Show.

    • Travis Moore im tempted but i got a zon billy gould bass due in the next few months. i contacted SEI basses asking the same thing and they said no.

    • Sorry for not getting back to you on this I did not see it.
The headstocks are 3+1 and 4+1 however if you use my standard custom bass headstock you can have 2+2 or 3+2 it is no problem. The necks are laminated they are 3 piece maple. Again it is no problem to do a 5 piece as well.
