Simon Fitzpatrick: Solo Bass Cover of “Stairway to Heaven”

Bass whiz Simon Fitzpatrick has done it again with a jaw-dropping version of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”.

This clip comes from a May 22nd performance with the Carl Palmer Band at Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks, Kent. The bassist even covers the guitar solo with one handed tapping while keeping the bass line going, eventually wrapping up the big jam at the end with a looper and some gnarly effects.

  1. my lord, g-sus christ played the tamborine anyone asks why I play a six string I’m going to show them this watch heir jaws drop…

  2. The bass is so versitile. You can play it in a tradition way (ie. Jamerson) or you can play it like a guitar. When done right both ways sound great. Bravo Simon!

  3. I can’t believe I missed this. Only 10 bloody minutes away on the train. Damn you depression and isolation!

    • Happens, Trev. I had tickets to see Holdsworth at Royal Festival Hall a few years back. Decided I was not in the mood to get there (would hae only taken about 2hrs by train. Maybe next time you will see Simon!

  4. WOW! That’s AWESOME. You just played it better all by yourself on a bass than MANY bands that I’ve seen attempt to pull it off.

  5. I would love to get the sheet music for this version.

  6. amazing! Happy to be a bass player! anything can be played with a bass!

  7. Spectacular.. Just brilliant.

  8. O, that do sound pretty! I didn’t know you could play a bass so melodically. Thanx.

  9. He’s not human.

  10. Very nice. I’d love to see this done on a 4 string.
