Zander Zon: “Somebody That I Used To Know” Solo Bass Cover

Zander Zon is back with a new video. This time around, he’s performing an all-bass cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know”.

Zander says, “I’m using a loop pedal during the verse and a couple other parts, but not the chorus. This piece was recorded live, with no overdubs (CDEG tuning). Hope you like it!”

  1. Fine, but…. is this bass? It sounds pretty much like a guitar. Too much treble for me :)

  2. I think first string is a guitar string.

  3. I like it and I wished I could play it… but I much prefer a bass jam with some bottom.

  4. its funny every video he has someone questions his bass :-)

  5. Bass or no bass hes doing his own thing and showing the rest of us up!

  6. This song arrangement sounds great the way it is. Regardless of there not being “enough bass” doesn’t matter. The song tells you what is needed from the instrument if only we, the instrumentalists, are willing and able to listen. Great job, Zander. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great job on taking music forward from where you found it. I’m sure Victor Wooten would agree on that statement.

  7. y not just play guitar sounds like twinkle twinkle little star.

  8. Zander is using piccolo strings on a bass guitar, the question remains whether its a bass or a guitar… for me it does not matter: its music with lots of emo ;).
