La Vague: Straight Contrariwise – Resophonic Bass & Vocals

Here at No Treble HQ, we like things that are a little out of the ordinary. Check out this video of La Vague performing their song “Straight Contrariwise”.

The duo is made up of Francesca Pirami on vocals and Alessandro Corsi on resophonic bass, stomp box guitar and back up vocals.

Corsi’s unique style incorporates finger-style plucking and flamenco-style strumming with his bass lines. Make sure to check out the breakdown at 2:29 for some pretty smoking licks.

Not only is Corsi playing the bass like a boss, he’s playing the guitar the way it should be. (Just kidding. Sort of.)

  1. Ass. Kicking. Love it!

  2. He’s playing it like a boss… a boss guitar player. He’s awesome and I really dug the whole thing, but he has no sense of time whatsoever. I don’t know him, so maybe it’s one of those one-take things just for fun and he really is a solid bass player :-)

    • i think the 4th measure of the groove is slowed down on purpose, and then the vocalists says something to the effect of “we throw the groove down on the ground”. a little unfair to say he has no sense of time whatsoever.

  3. Where can I find that bass he’s playing? This is fantastic, but I can’t take my eyes off that smoking piece of hardware.

  4. Hmm…interesting.I’m going to look up the resophonic Bass. Thanks!

  5. Good one! I’m loving this a lot.

  6. I really like this! Amazing bass tone – totally different from anything I’ve heard before. Of course, the music is great. Gotta get one of these.
