Bass of the Week: Off Guitar Design soulbrotha’

Off Guitar Design soulbrotha Body Black

A collaboration between Martin Off and luthier Jozsi Lak, the Off Guitar Design soulbrotha’ bass is unique mix of retro and modern design aesthetics. The bass, which gets its design from the company’s soulsista’ guitar, is handmade by Lak in Germany.

Much of the soulbrotha’s construction is optional, from the body wood (alder, swamp ash or mahogany) to the neck (birdseye or flamed maple) to the fingerboard (rosewood, figured maple, or ebony). Even the neck shape, fretboard radius, and fret size are up to the end user. Of course, fretless and left-handed options are available, too.

Standard hardware includes Hipshot Ultralite tuners and a Hipshot bridge, while the pickups are typically by David Barfuss or Häussel. The bass comes with a simple passive electronics setup, though active can be installed.

  1. Looks like a Musicman Big Al to me.

  2. where can I bye one?

  3. Not what I would usually consider my cup of tea, but for some strange reason I don’t hate it… as a matter of fact I wouldn’t mind having one. The white one with the tort guard looks good IMO.

  4. For some reason, I am feeling that the only thing I’d be able to groove on one of these is “Eep Opp Ork Ah Ah!” by Jet Screamer…

  5. REALLY Good Build; great woods, electronics are top-notch, fit/finish boutique level. These folks know what they are doing- As to the design- I think it’s awesome.
