Tedeschi Truck Band Adds Bakithi Kumalo for Spring Tour Dates

Bakithi KumaloThe Tedeschi Trucks Band has announced that they’ve recruited bass legend Bakithi Kumalo to lay down the low end during their Spring tour dates. The bassist, who first made waves on the classic Paul Simon album Graceland, will be with the group this weekend at the Wanee Festival through the May 3rd performance in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Since original bassist Oteil Burbridge announced a break from touring last year, the band has been rotating heavyweight bassists including George Porter Jr., Ted Pecchio, and Dave Monsey. It seems there’s no love lost between Burbridge and the band, though it’s unclear whether he will be permanently replaced.

Tedeschi and Trucks have also announced a summer tour with the Black Crowes. The bass player for those dates has yet to be announced.

  1. Why do you say there appears to be no love lost between Oteil and the TTB? Meanwhile, what a lineup of replacements!
