Bass Centre Introduces Jaco Pastorius Tribute Bass

The Bass Centre is paying tribute to the late great Jaco Pastorius with their new Portrait Bass. Based on their Jive Bass, the latest addition to the Bass Collection range features a lined fretless rosewood fingerboard and Solar Flare finish. The Portrait Bass also comes without a pickguard, similar to how Jaco kept his instruments.

Bass Collection "Portrait" Jaco Tribute Bass

The bass’s basswood body is fitted with a maple neck that sports a vintage ’60s profile. It’s pickups are a pair of vintage style single coils with independent volume controls and a master tone control. Hardware includes chrome tuning machines and a Babicz Full Contact bridge.

The Bass Collection Portrait Bass is available now for approximately $750 USD (UK RRP of £495). For more info, check out the Bass Centre website.

  1. Incredibly affordable!

  2. would Jaco play it? Who knows, but I grow tired of companies trying to make a buck off the deceased.

  3. I personally like the Squire fretless vintage model. Affordable, looks and sounds great!

    • I have the Squire fretless and it sounds and plays like a high end expensive bass. One of the best basses I own. And at $300 its a steal

  4. 750 dollars for a bass made in korea ??? , not for me. I paid 600 dollars ( 8000 mexican pesos ) for a real FENDER , precision american standard made in usa 1998 last year .

  5. BASSWOOD! Jaco wouldn’t even waste piss on it.

  6. I think for that price an ash or alder body would have been in order. Nice, but nothing you can’t get for half that money with the same or maybe even better amount of quality.

  7. I tested THIS once http://www.thomann.de/gb/vintage_lvj96mrjp_fretless.htm , half the price and sounds decent… my 2 cents.

  8. Where are all the american made in basses? we’re invaded with Indonesia, Korea cheaps, damm!

  9. To me, it seems like they’ve taken a cheap-ish Jazz clone, ripped the pickguard off and slapped Jaco’s name on it to mark the price up. It’s affordable, but think how much you’re paying for less of an instrument. Not impressed.

  10. HATE it with a passion. Tribute my ass!
