Nathan East in studioHe’s played on tons of influential songs, but now bass legend Nathan East is working on his debut solo album.

East, who has worked with Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder and Daft Punk, has announced that he’s been recording his first album as a leader at Ocean Way’s Studio B.

The project is being done with Yamaha Entertainment Group and will feature a host of renowned musicians. Guest appearances include drummer Ricky Lawson, keyboardist Jeff Babko, guitarist Michael Thompson, keyboardist Tim Carmon and others to be announced.

A press release states the songs will range from Bob James originals to covers of R&B and rock songs to funky jams to patriotic hymns. Along with the album, East will be releasing a documentary and full biography to chronicle the bassist’s incredible life and career.

The album has yet to be named and is set for an early 2014 release.
