Lesson: Half-Time 16th Note Shuffle Bass Groove

Here’s a new lick to add to your bag of tricks: a half-time 16th-note shuffle groove with a hip-hop vibe.

The pattern is based on the G minor pentatonic scale. (Note: If you need some background on the pentatonic scale, here’s a good lesson to help you get started.)

Follow along with the video and this transcription (PDF with both standard notation and tab). The video includes a slow version around the 1:30 mark.

For the gear heads: I’m playing a 1976 Fender Precision bass with Dunlop nickel strings through a TC Electronic RH450 amp DI output into Logic Pro. The drum pattern is programmed using Maschine.

  1. Det sku iorden…som i ALTID!

  2. Love the lessons. Thanks for adding the equipment info too. I like your sound. I bought a set of Dunlop nickel strings 45 – 105 and after trying various string brands the Dunlop nickel strings give me the sound and feel I was looking for. I imagine after they wear a little they will be just perfect.
