Federico Malaman: Solo Bass Arrangement of Sting’s “Seven Days”

Here’s a bassist who never fails to impress me. Federico Malaman sent in this video of his solo bass version of Sting’s “Seven Days.”

After playing a tasty arrangement of the melody, Malaman sets up a loop and lets loose with some soulful soloing.

Nice playing!! Bass sound kind of ugly — has as much clank as it has “note”. Otherwise, nice video!

To me, it’s not the tone itself that’s ugly (unless you’re bothered by the fret rattle), it’s that the chords are voiced too low.
Imagine playing even the prettiest Chopin waltz an octave down on the piano!

Other than register, I too find it a pretty musical performance.

Very nice playing. I like the sound and the register!! Cheers!

Well Federico Malaman must like the chords in that register too, or he wouldn’t have played them there!
A bit too dense for my ears, but to each their own.
      Cheers.
