Anaconda Basses Introduces Super J Basses

Anaconda Basses Super J4 and J5 Basses

Anaconda Basses has expanded their range of basses with the Super J, which luthier Andrew Taylor-Cummings calls his take on a classic J-style. “I didn’t want to do yet another straight copy, but rather build and improve on a classic,” he writes. “The body is downsized and more sculpted, allowing for better ergonomics and comfort. I wanted to add a whole new tonal spectrum to what Bass players have come to expect from a Jazz, whilst still having access to the much loved classic ‘Jazz’ tones.”

Available in 4- and 5-string versions, the Super J comes standard with passive electronics incorporating the Stellartone Tonestyler control, which gives a wide range of tones with 10 selectable mid-frequencies. The 4-string version has a pair of Woodhead/Anaconda design hum-canceling pickups in a standard ’60s “Jazz” configuration with independent series/parallel switches for each pickup. Its neck width at the nut is 40mm, which Anaconda says is slightly wider than the classic style but narrower than a P-style.

The 5-string version has its pickups in Anaconda’s own ToneZones positions. Its bridge pickup unit is two separate hum-canceling pickups that can be used together at once or separately, while the neck pickup has a mute switch that allows for soloing the bridge pickups. The fiver is also set apart by a 34.5″ scale to accommodate for a more taut B string.

Both versions are built with an alder body, a maple top, and a 5-piece maple neck with wenge stringers. Hardware includes Hipshot Ultralite tuners and a Hipshot B-style bridge.

Anaconda Basses are fully handcrafted instruments, built in Great Britain. The Super J4 has a base price of $2,437 (£1550) while the Super J5 starts at $2,637 (£1700).

Is there anyway you could write the price in pounds as well as dollars? Seeing as this is an English company and all..

  2. I was interested until I saw the price.
