Wellington, Burbridge and Friends: Shape of My Heart

Anthony Wellington is one of the all time great bassists and bass educators. He’s been a member of Victor Wooten’s band for years, and his Bassology teaching studio continually turns out fantastic bass players.

Today we’re celebrating his birthday with a clip from Gerald Veasley’s 2015 Bass Boot Camp, where he took the stage with Oteil Burbridge, Richard Waller, and vocalist Weaz to perform Sting’s classic “Shape of My Heart.” The impromptu jam starts with Wellington’s chordal arrangement on his 7-string before the rest join in on the groove. Burbridge and Wellington take some soulful breaks between the verses, too.

Happy birthday, Anthony!

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.
