King Crimson with Tony Levin: Red, Live 1994

King Crimson had plenty of lineups, but this one may be my favorite. The chemistry between Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford, and Tony Levin never disappoints, and creating the double trio with the addition of Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn makes it even better.

Here’s a great clip of the band from a DVD of a live concert in Argentina from 1994. The sextet tackles “Red” with a relaxed energy that just pulls you in to listen again and again. Levin lays down a huge bass sound sprinkled with melodic phrases while playing off of the other band members.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.

Is that Fripp on stage right platform standing up and playing a Chapman stick? How very un-Fripp like! Are ou sure you got the line up right?
