More “Jaco” Documentary Screenings Scheduled; Joni Mitchell Footage Added

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo’s labor of love film about the late, legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, Jaco — A Documentary Film, is getting two small-scale advance screenings this summer: Aug. 14 at the Frida Theater in Santa Ana, California and Aug. 16 at Arclight Cinema in Hollywood, with a few other additional dates to be announced soon. According to some reports, the film should have a wider release in November.

Both Trujillo and director Paul Marchand will attend both screenings and participate in Q&A sessions about the film, which has been five years in the making for Trujillo, who owns Pastorius’ famous “Bass of Doom.”

Marchand breaks down the importance of Jaco’s story prior to a screening in early July.

The film, produced by Trujillo in association with Passion Pictures, features interviews with artists like Flea, Joni Mitchell, Sting, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Geddy Lee, Bootsy Collins, Carlos Santana about Jaco and his music, as well as with his family and friends.

The film is also set to include never-before-seen live footage of Jaco playing onstage with Mitchell.
