Ibanez Expands SR Fanned Fret Line With New Finish

After getting into the multi-scale bass market earlier this year, Ibanez is expanding their SR Fanned Fret bass line with a new finish. Available in five- and six-string versions, the bass will come in a Walnut Flat finish as well as its original black stain.

The SRFF805 five-string and 806 six-string models are built with an ash body, a five-piece jatoba/bubinga neck, and a rosewood fretboard. Each is fitted with a Mono-Rail V bridge system set up for a fan-fret design.

“The goal of the fanned-fret system is to optimize the tension of each string,” Ibanez explains. “Equalized tension helps to create a more ‘alive,’ open tone. On the SRFF805/806, the scale length is 34″ on the highest pitch string side, expanding to 35.5 at the low B. The slant of the fanned-frets ergonomically coordinate with the player’s hand angles as it moves up and down the neck, facilitating quick, comfortable playing. The result is better tone, expanded harmonic complexity and improved playability across all five strings.”

Electronics include a pair of Bartolini BH1 pickups matched to a 3-band EQ complete with bypass and mid-frequency switches.

The Ibanez SRFF805 and SRFF806 will be available soon with street prices of $999 and $1,049.

    Dingwall. That’s it.

Personally, I’m glad to have an affordable alternative to Dingwall. I don’t like Dingwall’s flat necks on the Combustion and I can’t afford a $2000+ bass!

  2. 35.5 in not enough to justify the added price.

Offer them with a maple board and I’ll buy a grey one!
