Cliff Williams Announces Retirement from AC/DC
After 40 years holding down the low end for AC/DC, bassist Cliff Williams has announced he will retire after the band’s current tour. Williams, who replaced Mark Evans in mid-1977, cites the recent departure of other longtime members guitarist Malcolm Young, drummer Phil Rudd, and vocalist Brian Johnson as part of the reason for stepping down.
“It’s been what I’ve known for the past 40 years, but after this tour I’m backing off of touring and recording,” he told Gulfshore Life. “Losing Malcolm, the thing with Phil and now with Brian, it’s a changed animal. I feel in my gut it’s the right thing.”
Williams was featured on 12 studio albums including starting with 1978’s Powerage up to their most recent Rock or Bust. AC/DC’s next tour is slated to begin August 27th in Greensboro, North Carolina and end on September 20th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Paul Rudd on drums?
Haha, Phil. Thanks for the catch.
I will take over when is the next gig.
So … no more Cliff Williams, neither Malcolm Young, Phil Rudd, Brian Johnson … They’d better call this The Angus Young Band, or call it quits altogether.
This is one of my all time favorite rock bands! I’ve wondered what it would be like to play bass with these guys!
Maybe Angus should just join Guns n Roses.
