Cory Wong Releases “The Optimist”

Cory Wong: The OptimistVulfpeck collaborator Cory Wong has released his sophomore album, The Optimist. As the title suggests, the album is an upbeat and funky collection of songs.

“I wanted to share the part of my personality that keeps a positive and optimistic outlook on circumstances and life in general,” Wong told JamBase.com. “I felt like this collection of songs really captures that vibe, and the collaborations and writing process really had a lot to do with that.”

The Optimist features fellow Vulfpeck artist Antwaun Stanley, The Hornheads, Robbie Wulfsohn, and KATIS as guest artists. Wong is a Minneapolis native and kept things in that groove by enlisting the rhythm section of drummer Michael Bland, and bassist Sonny Thompson, both of whom spent time in Prince’s band, for several songs. Kevin MacIntire lays down the low end for the rest of the record, save “Juke on Jelly” where Wong handles it himself.
