Bassists using pedalboards on a dark stage know that sometimes the LEDs on effects units can be overly bright. Warwick’s W-Music Distribution has released a simple new product to address that situation. The RockBoard LED Dampers are diffractive caps that dampen the glare of the lights while allowing them to still be visible.

Geezer Butler recently announced his new band, Deadland Ritual, featuring guitarist Steve Stevens, drummer Matt Sorum, and vocalist Franky Perez. Now, we get to hear the bassist’s first new music since Black Sabbath’s final tour in 2016.

Vulfpeck was a guest on Chris Thile’s live radio variety show “Live from Here” recently. Among the tunes they played was “Dean Town,” which is one of our favorite showcases of the great Joe Dart. (There was also a lot of head bobbing.)

Paul McCartney has added a few more dates onto his “Freshen Up” Tour schedule for 2019. The legendary bassist revealed four South American dates plus four more U.S. dates.

This week we’re checking out the Skervesen Guitars Bronto 37-5. The five-string bass’s design includes neck-through construction, a multi-scale neck, plus a chambered body developed specifically for the bass. Skervesen adds “37-5” to the Bronto name to indicate it’s scale lengths, which run from 37 inches for the B string to 35 inches.

There’s been a real resurgence in the love for Queen in the past year, thanks in part to the incredible biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. We’ve been getting quite a few Queen cover videos, but this version of “The Show Must Go On” by What A Day captured my imagination.

Good news for bass extremists: Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey are recording a new “Bass Extremes” album. Wooten let the news slip during the intro to a video about a new limited edition silk screen poster. The duo will once again be joined by drummer Gregg Bissonette.

Reverend Horton Heat is back with “Whole New Life,” a record that finds the band with a new drummer and a quartet configuration. As always, longtime bassist Jimbo Wallace lays it on thick with his signature upright slap style.

Peavey Electronics has announced the MAX series of bass combo amps with four new models: the MAX 100, the MAX 150, the MAX 250, and the MAX 208. Each of the cabs features an angled baffle design that aims the woofer up towards your ears.
