Ibanez Unveils the SR Mezzo Bass

Ibanez SR Mezzo Basses

Ibanez has expanded their flagship SR series of basses with the SRMD200 “Mezzo”. The entry-level model comes in a variety of finishes but sets itself apart with a medium 32-inch scale.

“32” scale provides a shorter reach and tighter fret spacing allowing for easy execution of fast runs and quick jumps across the fingerboard,” the company says. “From top to bottom this scale length makes for a very quick and agile instrument, while still preserving a high degree of the attack and low end of full-scale basses.”

The SRMD200 is built with a poplar body, maple neck, and maple fretboard with black dot inlays. Ibanez fits it with their Dynamix P/J pickup set and a custom 2-band EQ. It comes in several finishes with a white pickguard (Candy Apple Matte, Sapphire Blue Metallic, Roadster Orange Metallic, Sea Foam Pearl Green) as well as two with a black pickguard: Aqua Green and Vintage White.

The Ibanez SRMD200 will be available soon with a street price of $299.99.

A great compliment to my Stevie Ray Vaughn Ax

  3. Chuck Carney

Will the New “Ibanez” be released in a 4 String only? No mention of a 5 Strung in the Above Write up.. Thanks much

  4. Oh yeah, I’m going buy a couple of these. Shorter scale PJ bass, with 22 frets and active electronics at a 300 buck price point? Again, Fender, are you taking notes?????? I agree that there should be a lefty, and eventually a fiver as well, but I’m totally cool with this. My only gripe is I would have liked a second choice on fretboard wood besides maple, maybe pau ferro since rosewood is CITES now.

…it would be great to have one with Hipshot D Tuner on E string or a 5 string one!
