Mats Eilertsen Trio Releases “And Then Comes The Night”

Mats Eilertsen Trio: And Then Comes The NightNorwegian jazz bassist and composer Mats Eilertsen has released a new trio album, entitled And Then Comes The Night. The record, which is titled after a novel by Icelandic writer Jón Kalman Stefánsson, has a subtle and beautiful sound. That comes in part thanks to the studio they used.

Eilertsen calls Audiotorio Selio Molo in Lugano, Switzerland a studio with “special character and atmosphere.” He chose to make the most of that with drummer Thomas Strønen and pianist Harmen Fraanje. “We came in with a number of compositional sketches and the intention of seeing what could be shaped from them, with Manfred Eicher’s help, in that specific space,” the bassist explained.

To get an idea of what that sounds like, listen to this album excerpt:

And Then Comes The Night is available now on CD and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
