Mats Eilertsen Trio Releases “And Then Comes The Night”
Norwegian jazz bassist and composer Mats Eilertsen has released a new trio album, entitled And Then Comes The Night. The record, which is titled after a novel by Icelandic writer Jón Kalman Stefánsson, has a subtle and beautiful sound. That comes in part thanks to the studio they used.
Eilertsen calls Audiotorio Selio Molo in Lugano, Switzerland a studio with “special character and atmosphere.” He chose to make the most of that with drummer Thomas Strønen and pianist Harmen Fraanje. “We came in with a number of compositional sketches and the intention of seeing what could be shaped from them, with Manfred Eicher’s help, in that specific space,” the bassist explained.
