Allman Brothers Band’s Historic Fillmore West ’71 Performances Now Available

The Allman Brothers Band: Fillmore West ’71It’s been 50 years since the Allman Brothers Band was formed, and the celebration is continuing with the release of their explosive live performance at the Fillmore West in 1971. The four-CD collection is culled from a weekend at the San Francisco venue two years after they became a band. It will be the debut release of the recordings.

“Compiled from reel-to-reel soundboard masters, the January 29 show that kicks off this collection reads like an Allman Brothers Band greatest hits, from opener ‘Statesboro Blues’ through the set-wrapping ‘Whipping Post,'” the band’s website states. “On the next night, the standard sequence of ‘Statesboro Blues,’ Trouble No More,’ ‘Don’t Keep Me Wonderin” and ‘Elizabeth Reed’ was typically riveting, and then the blues-soaked ‘Stormy Monday’ was worked in, replacing ‘Midnight Rider.'”

Bassist Berry Oakley was in top shape with the band and even took to singing “Hoochie Coochie Man.” Hear the legendary bass man lay it down:

The Allman Brothers Band’s Fillmore West ’71 is available now on CD and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
