Felix Pastorius Joins Jazz is PHSH for April Tour
Jazz is PHSH has announced “The Phishermen Tour,” which will take the band through the South and Midwest through April. Bandleaders Adam Chase and Matthew Chase have put together another great lineup for the outing with Slavic Soul Party trombonist Adam Dotson, Dynamo saxophonist Kevin Gatzke, and bassist Felix Pastorius. Together, they’ll reimagine the music of Phish through the lens of jazz.
“With the music of Phish being both largely improvised as well as highly composed, the framework of Phish’s music is the perfect vehicle for exploring in an instrumental setting,” the group’s website explains. “The compositions are both challenging and adaptive. Jazz IS PHSH provides an exploration of Phish music unlike anything else.”
The Phishermen Tour kicks off April 12th at Isis Music Hall in Asheville, North Carolina and will work its way to finish up at the Hi-Fi in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 25th.
Pastorius has been playing off and on with the group for several years. You can hear him laying it down in this clip of “Foam”:
