Sire Announces the U5 Passive Short Scale Bass

After unveiling the prototype at last year’s NAMM Show, Sire is nearing the launch of its new U5 model. The bass is a short-scale instrument using their Marcus Miller Small Jazz Type body and P/J pickups.
“It is small, lightweight, and has simplified electronic settings. You can play it comfortably straight out-of-the-box, needless of any initial set up,” the company states. “A perfect choice for children, students, or any player looking for a lighter instrument to take on tour.”
The bass comes in three colors: Tobacco Sunburst, Natural, and Mint. Other features include a maple neck, a hard maple fingerboard with rolled edges, and passive volume and tone controls. Sire’s U5 bass is expected to ship in May with a $499 price point.
