The Band Geeks: Roundabout

There are some pretty amazing videos being shared during this time of social distancing.

Here’s one by The Band Geeks, who put together their “Quarantine Edition” cover of the Yes tune, “Roundabout.”

The band features Richie Castellano on bass on vocals, Ann Marie Castellano on lead vocals and percussion, Andy Graziano on guitar and vocals, Andy Ascolese on drums and vocals, and Rob Kipp on keyboards.

Corey Brown is the founder of No Treble and serves in an advisory role. He’s also Head of Editorial at Muse Group. Learn more about Corey on his website and LinkedIn.

    WOW!

My college band tried to learn this in 1971 since we were massive YES fans. (By the way, YES performed at the LOUDEST concerts I have ever attended, and I did it twice, believe it or not. Once at Duke and once at the Hollywood Sportatorium (long gone).

Anyway, I had learned over the years that the best band-mates were music department majors, so I got 8 of them to join. As good as we were–we backed-up major professional bands at large venues–but for some reason, we could not master this song well enough to perform it live. We worked on it for quite a while, and finally decided that it would be possible to learn it, but being young, we were impatient.

Now that I see it performed close-up, I can understand why it was difficult to learn. The bass part, and I was up front for this song and saw Chris (RIP) play this (wearing the coolest grey boots and Kelly Green/white costume ever) it became even more obvious how difficult it would be to play live by US, anyway.

Great song, great band–way advanced musically than most of their contemporaries.

    Thanks for posting!
