Charvel Unveils New Pro-Mod San Dimas Basses
After debuting some bass models from their custom shop at last year’s NAMM, Charvel has unveiled two new retrofied production basses with a Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass PJIV and the Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass JJV. They each share many of the same specs with the main differences being the string count and pickup set.
“The sleek alder body shape is a familiar one—straight from the original Charvel San Dimas basses of late 1970s, with the deeper cutaway that gave adventurous bassists effortless upper-register access,” the company explains.
Both models are built with an alder body, bolt-on maple neck, and a caramelized maple fingerboard with a compound 12 to 16-inch radius. The fretboard is fitted with 20 jumbo frets and cream dot fret markers as well as Luminlay side dots.
The PJ-IV is a four-string that has a set of DiMarzio P/J pickups matched to an active 3-band EQ. The JJV is a five-string with a set of DiMarzio Area J pickups and 3-band EQ. The five-string also sets itself apart with a longer 35-inch scale.
The basses have throwback color options with Lime Green Metallic and Mystic Blue for the PJIV and Candy Apple Red Metallic and Lambo Green Metallic for the five-string. Other features include Licensed Fender headstocks, HiMass bridges, and Open Gear Tuners.
The Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass PJIV and Pro-Mod San Dimas JJV will be shipping in April with prices of $899.99 and $999.99.

Why oh why so skinny neck??? Is there any bass with PJ / J pickup config with least 1.7” nut wide neck…. ???
Just don´t buy it.
???
Im searching desperately wide neck bass. This looked promising style wise but the specs was wet hit on face, as too many other basses. GL L2000 seems my only option if just find used one
The Yamaha basses heve wide necks.
Good luck, buddy!
