Bass of the Week: Köllner Bass Instruments Spectra
This week we’re taking a look at the Spectra model by Köllner Bass Instruments. Handmade in Germany by luthier Stefan Köllner, this particular Spectra is crafted with a roasted alder body topped with Black Limba and a wenge fingerboard.
For electronics, Köllner opted for a pair of Häussel single-coil pickups matched to a Noll 3-band active/passive preamp. Other features include an ETS bridge and Schaller tuners. All in all, the bass weighs 7.5 pounds.

Really lightweight for a 5! But all those multi-colored stripes look like a too-loud 1940’s men’s suit jacket to me… Plus three narrow black bars caused by the pups and bridge? Way too busy IMO… And roasted alder topped with black limba and wenge sounds more like a meal in an expensive bistro than a bass!
