Christian Fabian Trio Releases “Christmas Everywhere”
Bassist Christian Fabian is helping everyone get in the Christmas spirit this year with a new CD entitled Christmas Everywhere. He recorded with his trio completed by Matt King and Jason Marsalis, who help him put holiday favorites in a jazz context.
Fabian, who is co-leader of the Lionel Hampton Big Band, shared some insight on the record with us.
“Someone approached me in January and we recorded in March,” he writes. “[It was a] 3-hour session and a few melodica overdubs for the keyboard player. We spent 4 hours in the studio. The piano player and I shared the arrangements. He did four and I did four. That’s pretty much it. I am happy I did that and pretty surprised every time I listen about the variety of styles we covered. I’ve been playing with Jason since 2008. He is also part of the Lionel Hampton Big Band playing vibes.”
