MC Revolution Reworks “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” With Christian Fabian on Bass

After reimagining Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” with drum legend Bernard Purdie, MC Revolution is back to put their stamp on another timeless classic. Their cover of the Temptations’ hit “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” features vocalist Tony Lindsay, best known for his long tenure with Santana, and a host of Grammy Award-winning and nominated artists.
“This modern arrangement includes Tony Lindsay, Christian Fabian, Mark Kassa, Lonnie Park, Ryan Shore, Lance Crane, Anita Lerche, Eric Goletz, and Anibal Martinez. It’s an incredible tribute to one of the most iconic songs in R&B history,” the group shares.
“Papa Was a Rolling Stone” has one of the most recognizable bass lines in recorded history, and bassist Christian Fabian does it justice while bringing his own voice to the table. He also arranged the dynamic horn section and added an 18-bar solo form, which is where he opens up with some funky slap lines.
MC Revolution’s “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” is streaming now on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more. You can also hear it below on YouTube.
